I salute you from Miami!

I've been traveling through California and Oregon these past few days, doing some bookshop hunting and pondering about how much the how the climate of a city impacts people's behaviors.

3 intellectual goodies

• Learning pods: I am ever more convinced that learning pods will replace schools. Learning pods are hyper-personalized, educational groups, where kids get together as they receive their online courses individually. This is the sweet spot between online education and physical schools. Kids take classes specifically tailored to their learning journey, while they get to hang out with other kids and get guidance from a local teacher. Parents, kids, and teachers design together the child's educational path based on their interests, talents, and eagerness. Kids learn from the best teachers around the world and have friends all over cyberspace.

• The Weather: People who live in the same types of climate behave similarly even when they may be on opposite sides of the planet. They wear similar clothes, eat similar foods, and enjoy doing similar things during their spare time. There's an undeniable connection between our environment and our behavior. Finding a way to use that to our advantage is well-design urbanism.

• Creator Economy: Currently, consumers are spending ~4.2 hours a day using apps on their smartphone. That's a 30% in increase from two years prior, translating to 38% increase in app spend. And it makes sense. We are studying, working, celebrating birthdays, and dating online, which explains why most of us feel overwhelmed with the infinite possibilities and overload of information. This is why we're willing to place our most valuable resources, trust and attention, in creators. Creators are virtually acting as our filter of the internet. The problem is, if we consume the same information everyone else does, we'll get the same results and ideas. The most interesting patterns come from obscure data, combined with life experiences and insightful observations.
